Gearshack Information

About the Gearshack

The gearshack was started as a result of demand from clients on courses run by the Trekking Company. People always asked advice about outdoor equipment, so we decided to start our own shop with advice and also discounts for Trekking Co clients.

The shop is run from the TrekCo office - you can contact Harriet here on 01273 487153; or via sales@gearshack.co.uk or office@trekco.com

Technical advice is given by Steve Ranger. Steve is the founder of the Trekking Company and an outdoor instructor with many years of experience. He holds the Mountaineering Instructor Award (MIA) and International Mountain Leader Award (Accompagnateur en Montagne).

We hope to provide a personal and highly professional service - we are always available to give advice on outdoor equipment, and will help you to choose the right gear, not just gear that we sell.

Gearshack, TrekCo and Nepal

Gearshack, TrekCo and Nepal

Gearshack and its sister company, TrekCo, support a charity in Nepal run by Pemba Doma Sherpa - the first Nepali woman to climb Everest from both sides.

Pemba's charity is 'Save the Himalayan Kingdom' and provides education for young villagers as well as other projects such as the current restoration of Deboche nunnery in the Khumbu (Everest) region of Nepal; the poorest country in the world outside of Africa.

The nuns here live in poor conditions compared to their relatively affluent colleagues at the top of the hill in the world famous Tengboche Monastery - toursits walk straight past the smaller nunnery. Pemba has supervised the re-roofing and general modernisation (by local standards) of the nunnery and has greatly improved the lot of the nuns.

Steve Ranger was given a great reception in October following TrekCo and Gearshack's donation towards the work, and we will continue to donate to this good cause.

Pemba frequently visits us in the UK, and gives slideshows on request - including the Kendal Mountain Film Festival. If you would like a slideshow, please get in touch. Proceeds can be donated to Save the Himalayan Kingdom.
