Bears Wood

via: 269 Osward, Forestdale, Addington, Croydon.

Please note that this is NOT the site address; just the house adjacent to the entrance. Please don't try to contact this house - they have nothing to do with the site tiself and are just unlucky enough to be next door! However, the site is very hard to find unless you look for this address.

Bookings Secretary: Tony Bateman 0208 657 2642 Activity Advisor: Ron Wellbrook 0208 668 7965

This is a small campsite with a small abseil/climbing tower about 20 feet high or less. The tower may be used by contacting the numbers above to book the tower and the activity respectively.

There are instructors and gear available; please note when booking that you must insist on one of their SPA qualified instructors as others have a Scout form M which is not acceptable to the Guide Association. Call Mr. Wellbrook for details. There is a small fee but outside groups such as Guides are welcome; although they rarely come to Bears Wood.

This is an extremely well organised and run site which has a climbing tower about 40 fet high. There is no abseiling. The site are fully aware of the Guide Association's climbing requirements and have put some of their staff through the Guides scheme. Therefore when booking all instructors should be acceptable to the Guide Association.
